The lights of Christmas past - Downtown Clinton

In the early part of the 20th Century, the city of Clinton was a major player in the international pearl trade.  Today, the city’s downtown is known for its Antiques stores and small town charm.  During the holidays the spirit of the season is evident everywhere you turn around., especially after the sun goes down.  Along Market Street, the town Christmas Tree stands tall enough to be seen from just about every vantage point nearby.  In the small park surrounding the tree, you’ll find lighted outlines of Santa Claus, the three Wise Men and Mary Joseph and the baby Jesus. 

Strolling down Market street, the window displays this time of year, take you back to a simpler time. No big screen tv’s, designer handbags or high fashion clothing here.  Instead, you’ll find a vintage lighted Santa Claus next to an antique Coca-Cola cooler, some fiber-optic color changing Christmas trees, and even a Santa Claus doing splits on an antique chair.   There are a few reindeer along the sidewalks, one is all lit up while the other’s wooden stare has you stopping to take a look.

To fully enjoy your Christmas experience in Downtown Clinton, come a couple of hours before the sun sets, and browse through the dozen or so shops along Main and Market Streets.  For dining options, there’s Amelia’s Café, Apple Blossom Café and the Franciscan Cajun Café (a relatively new restaurant still working on its operating hours, so call them first).   After dinner, take a little time to catch all the night time Christmas magic in this historic East Tennessee town.
